Hugh Bell, born in Harlem, New York, 1927, has lived and continues to operate his photographic studio in the city. Bell, an alumni of New York university in 1952 graduated with a bachelor's degree in Journalism and Cinematic Art. he worked with Documentatry Filmmaker Richard Leacock, and television commercials while establishing his photographic studio in the West Village. Bell's photo "Hot Jazz" was selected by Edward Steichen for the historic "Family of Man" exhibit at the Museum of Modern Art in 1955. Bell’s photos of everyday life of the Spaniards of Ibiza in the ‘50s captures a time and place of serenity and innocence that cannot be regained.
His images of jazz musicians honestly capture their personalities without compromise. This monograph celebrates the essence of a man who lived his life and worked walking Between the Raindrops.
